My father be ransom for the beloved I parted from; for one like him—
if his like could be found—love was created.

He possessed beauty in its entirety; never did
Joseph possess such charms of loveliness as he possessed.

In the heart is a burning thirst for him; even were it to become
drowned in the water of his cheeks, its thirst would not be quenched.

دمعَthe tears of الغَرامِpassionate love ولاnor دَرىhas he known كيفَwhat ... is like الجوَىburning heartache
A carefree man reproaches me for him, one who has never known
the tears of passion, nor known what heartache is.

He takes on the odium of advice; he gains nothing from
the lover's good sense, nor bears blame if he goes astray.

فعلامَso why يَلْحَىreproach اللائمُونthe reproachers بجهْلِهمin their ignorance
مَنone who جُرحُهُhis wound فيin الحُبِّlove عندَهمُin their eyes شَوَىa trifle
Why, then, do the reproachers in their ignorance reproach
one whose wound in love they deem a trifle?
