رَمتْنا اللَّيالي بافتراقٍ مُشَتِّتٍ

رَمتْنا اللَّيالي بافتراقٍ مُشَتِّتٍ

أَشَتَّ وأَنْأَى من فِراقِ المُحَصَّبِ

أَشَتَّ وأَنْأَى من فِراقِ المُحَصَّبِ

The nights struck us with a separation that scattered us,

More widely and farther than the parting at al-Muḥaṣṣab.

تَخَالَفَتِ الأَهواءُ وانْشقَتِ العَصَا

تَخَالَفَتِ الأَهواءُ وانْشقَتِ العَصَا

وشَعَّبَهُمْ وشَكُ النَّوَى كلَّ مَشْعَبِ

وشَعَّبَهُمْ وشَكُ النَّوَى كلَّ مَشْعَبِ

Desires diverged, and the staff of unity split;

And impending separation scattered them down every branching path.

وقد نَثَر التوديعُ من كلّ مُقلةٍ

وقد نَثَر التوديعُ من كلّ مُقلةٍ

على كلِّ خدٍّ لؤْلُؤاً لم يُثَقَّبِ

على كلِّ خدٍّ لؤْلُؤاً لم يُثَقَّبِ

And farewell had strewn from every eye

Onto every cheek pearls never pierced.
