يا آلِفَ الهَمِّ لا تَقْنَطْ فأَيْأَسُ ما

يا آلِفَ الهَمِّ لا تَقْنَطْ فأَيْأَسُ ما

تكونُ يأتيكَ لُطفُ اللهِ بالفَرَجِ

تكونُ يأتيكَ لُطفُ اللهِ بالفَرَجِ

O you accustomed to sorrow, do not despair; for at your most hopeless,

O companion of worries, do not despair

God's kindness comes to you with relief.

For whatever doesn't happen will come to you by God's grace

ثِقْ بالذي يَسمعُ النَّجوى ويُنجي من ال

ثِقْ بالذي يَسمعُ النَّجوى ويُنجي من ال

بَلْوى ويَسْتَنْقذُ الغَرقى من اللُّجَجِ

بَلْوى ويَسْتَنْقذُ الغَرقى من اللُّجَجِ

Trust in Him who hears secret whispers and delivers from

Trust in He who hears the whispers and saves from

affliction, and rescues the drowning from the depths.

Afflictions and rescues the drowning from the depths

ثِقَلى إذا نادَيتِني لمُلِمَّةٍ

ثِقَلى إذا نادَيتِني لمُلِمَّةٍ

أجْدى من المتسَرِّعِ الهلبَاجِ

أجْدى من المتسَرِّعِ الهلبَاجِ

My deliberateness, when you call me in a crisis,

Trust me, when you call upon me urgently

is more useful than the rash, blundering fool.

I am more useful than one rushing heedlessly

إنّ الأناةَ من الخبيرِ بما أَتى

إنّ الأناةَ من الخبيرِ بما أَتى

تُغْنيكَ عن سَيرٍ وعن إدلاجِ

تُغْنيكَ عن سَيرٍ وعن إدلاجِ

Indeed, deliberation by one who knows what he undertakes

Patience from the Expert with what has come

spares you travel and journeying by night.

Suffices you instead of travel and packing

ما في شَرارِ النّارِ نفعٌ يُرتَجى

ما في شَرارِ النّارِ نفعٌ يُرتَجى

والجَمرُ فيهِ فضيلةُ الإنضاجِ

والجَمرُ فيهِ فضيلةُ الإنضاجِ

No benefit is to be hoped for in the sparks of fire,

In the embers of fire no benefit is hoped for

while embers have the virtue of cooking things through.

While in it is the virtue of ripening
