  1. صديق لنا كالبحر أهلك الورى

    ولم تنههم أخطاره عن ركوبه

    A friend of ours is like the sea, which has destroyed humankind;

    yet its dangers have not deterred them from sailing upon it.

  2. موداته تحكيه صفواً وخبرها

    كمشربه من حوبه وذنوبه

    His affections mirror its clarity; yet testing them

    is like drinking from it, because of his wrongdoing and sins.
