وكل ملك إلى زوال

لا يعتري ذا اليقين شكه

And every dominion comes to an end;

No doubt of it besets one who possesses certainty.

إن لم يزل بانتقال حال

أزال ذلك الملك عنه هلكه

If it does not pass away through a change of circumstance,

His death will take that dominion from him.

والله رب العباد باق

وهالك نده وشركه

And God, Lord of His servants, endures;

And His rival and partner are doomed to perish.

فقل لمن يظلم البرايا

غرك إمهاله وتركه

So say to whoever oppresses God's creatures:

His granting you respite and leaving you alone have deceived you.

تنسى ذنوبا عليك تحصى

يحصرها نقده وحكه

You forget sins that are counted against you;

His scrutiny and touchstone-testing take account of them all.

كم ناسك نسكه رياء

أوبقه في المعاد نسكه

How many an ascetic whose devotion is mere show

Has been doomed in the hereafter by his devotion!

فاحذر فما يختفي عليه

من عبده صدقه وإفكه

So beware, for nothing is hidden from Him—

Neither His servant's truthfulness nor his falsehood.
