وماand not سَكنتْfound rest نَفْسِيmy soul إلىin الصّبرِpatience عنكُمaway from you
ولاnor رَضِيَتْwas content with بُعدَremoteness الدِّيارِthe homes منinstead of القُرْبِnearness
And my soul found no rest in patiently enduring your absence,
My soul did not settle to be patient without you all,
Nor was it content with distant homes instead of nearness.
Nor was it satisfied with the lands being distant instead of near.
ولكنَّbut أيّامِيmy days قضَتْdecreed بِشَتَاتِنَاour separation
ففارَقكُمso parted from you جِسمِيmy body وجَاوَرَكُمand dwelt beside you قَلبيmy heart
But my days decreed our separation,
But my days have passed in our separation,
So my body parted from you, while my heart dwelt beside you.
So my body left you, while my heart stayed with you.
ولوand if جَمَعَتْنَاbrought us together الدّارُthe home بعدafter تَفَرّقٍseparation
لكُنْتُمyou would be منof الدّنياthe world ونِعمتِهاand its bounty حَسْبِيenough for me
And if home reunited us after separation,
And if the house brought us back together after separation
You would be all I need of this world and its bounty.
You all would have been my sufficiency from the life and its blessings.
