نُبِّئتُI was told أَنَّهمُthat they بعدَafter البِعادِseparation نَسَواforgot
عَهدِيmy bond وقالُواand they said مضَىhas passed أَمسٌyesterday بماwith what فيهِwas in it
I was told that after separation they forgot
I was told that after being far away they forgot
Their bond with me, and said, “Yesterday has passed with all it held.”
My covenant and said yesterday has passed with what's in it
وهمْand they علىin كلِّevery حَالٍstate منof هَوىًlove وقِلىًand aversion
إِنسانُpupil (of the eye) عَينيmy eye قبيحٌshameful بيfor me تنَاسِيهِfeigning to forget it
Yet whether in love or aversion,
And in any state of passion or anguish they are
They are the pupil of my eye; it ill befits me to feign forgetting them.
The apple of my eye - how ugly of them to forget me
وكلَّماand whenever اقْتَرفُواthey committed ذنباًa fault يُزهِّدُنيmakes me lose interest
أَقامَprovided حبِّيmy love لَهُمfor them عُذراًan excuse يُعفّيهِthat effaces it
And whenever they committed a fault that would turn me away,
And whenever they commit a sin that estranges me
My love made an excuse for them that effaced it.
My love for them provides an excuse that pardons them
