نَ بقلبِ مُحتسبٍ صَبورِ
Meet calamities when they come knocking
Meet calamities, when they come knocking,
with a heart that seeks reward, steadfast and patient.
with a patient heart, seeking God's reward.
فَسينقَضيfor it will pass زمنُthe time الهُمُوsorrows (word continues)
فَسينقَضي زمنُ الهُمُو
مِfinal fragment of 'sorrows' كَماjust as اُنقَضىpassed زَمنُthe time السُّرورِjoy
مِ كَما اُنقَضى زَمنُ السُّرورِ
The season of sorrows will pass,
For the time of sorrows will pass,
just as the season of joy has passed;
just as the time of joy has passed.
فَمِنَfor, among المُحالِthe impossible دوامُpermanence حاa state (word continues)
فَمِنَ المُحالِ دوامُ حا
لٍfinal fragment of 'a state' فيwithin مَدىthe span العمرِlife القَصيرِbrief
لٍ في مَدى العمرِ القَصيرِ
for no condition can possibly last
For it is impossible for any state to endure
throughout the span of this brief life.
