واهاًAh! لِلَيلٍfor a night خِلتُنِيI fancied myself منbecause of طِيبهِits sweetness

متَفيِّئاًsheltering in shade فيin ظلِّthe shade of طَيرٍa bird طَائرِflying
Ah, for a night whose sweetness made me fancy myself
Alas for the night that deprived me of its goodness
Sheltering in the shade of a bird in flight!
As I took shelter in the shadow of a flying bird
لوif أنّنِيthat I أشْرِيI buy بعُمريَwith my life مِثلَهits like
أوor بالشّبِيبةwith youth لمnot أكُنْI would be بالخَاسِرِthe loser
Were I to buy its like with my life,
If only I could buy back my life for the likes of it
Or with my youth, I would not be the loser.
Or with youthfulness, I would not be at a loss
I shared a drink with فيهِin it البدرَthe full moon شمساًa sun تُوِّجَتwas crowned

There, with the full moon, I drank a sun that was crowned
In it I obtained the full moon, a sun crowned
When mixed, with every shining star.
At dusk with every bright star

And I kissed a mouth that, had it shone in darkness,
And I kissed lips, if they had shone in the darkness
Would have freed the parched lands from needing rain-bearing clouds.
They would make the confused one needless of the raining clouds
