يشْقَى لِنفعي ويسعَى سعْيَ مُجْتَهدِ
A companion whose company one never wearies of, lifelong—
And a companion whose company never grows tiresome, all life long,
he toils for my benefit and strives with all diligence.
He toils for my benefit and strives as a diligent worker strives.

I have never seen him since the day we became companions; but when he appeared
I have not met him since we became companions; for when he appeared
before my eyes, we parted—an everlasting parting.
Before my eyes, we parted forever.
