وقدand indeed كانwas فيهاin it العزglory والكرمand generosity المحضpure
I looked upon my loved ones’ home, desolate,
I looked upon the abode of those I loved, now empty
where glory and pure generosity once dwelt.
Once it was filled with honor and pure generosity
فلماthen when رأىsaw صحبيmy companions عليهاupon it تلدديmy restless looking about
ودمعيand my tears بكىwept بعضsome وعنفنيand rebuked me بعضsome
Then, when my companions saw my restless gazing upon it
When my friends saw my hesitation by it
and my tears, some wept, and some rebuked me.
Some wept with me, some rebuked me harshly
وقالواand they said أفقcome to your senses للأرضfor the earth تبكيyou weep فقلتso I said لاno
ولكننيbut I أبكيI weep لمنfor those whom وارتهمburied them الأرضthe earth
And they said, “Come to your senses! Do you weep for the earth?” I said, “No,
And said, "Do you weep for the ground?" I said "No!
but I weep for those whom the earth has buried.”
But I weep for those whom the ground now covers"
