    O dweller in my heart, though trackless deserts lie between us,

    And pupil of my eye, though the meeting-place is far away,

    فَهمّي جديدٌ والفِراقُ جَديدُ

    Longings conjure your image for me every night;

    So my grief is fresh, and separation is fresh.

    And my greatest grief is that the span of our separation

    Is long, and my life is long in misery.

    So, O Sakhr, al-Khansa is not like me; nor has

    What Labid decreed checked the sudden gushes of my tears.
