مُسْتصغَرُdeemed insignificant الذْنبِthe fault إنif عُدّتْis reckoned إساءتُهُits harm
مُسْتصغَرُ الذْنبِ إن عُدّتْ إساءتُهُ
وكَلْمُهَاand its wound فيin الحشَاthe innermost parts يَدْمَىbleeds ويَنْقَرِفُand reopens
وكَلْمُهَا في الحشَا يَدْمَى ويَنْقَرِفُ
A fault deemed slight, if its harm is reckoned,
The small sin, if its harm is counted,
while its wound bleeds and reopens in the heart,
And its words in the conscience bleed and shrivel,
مثلُlike القَذاةِthe mote بعينِin the eye of المرءِthe person يَحقِرُهاhe scorns it
مثلُ القَذاةِ بعينِ المرءِ يَحقِرُها
ودَمعُهُand his tears أبداًunceasingly منfrom وخْزِهاits pricking يكِفُdrips
ودَمعُهُ أبداً من وخْزِها يكِفُ
is like a mote in a man's eye, which he scorns,
Is like the speck in a man's eye he belittles,
yet his tears drip endlessly from its sting.
Yet its prick makes his tears flow unceasing.
