أنستني الأيام أيام الصبا

وذهلت عن طيب الزمان الذاهب

The days have made me forget the days of youth,

and I grew oblivious to the sweetness of vanished time.

وتنكرت حالي فكل مآربي

فيما مضى ما هن لي بمآرب

My state has turned strange: all that I desired

in days gone by, I desire now no more.
