When I drew near the dwellings, there spoke
When the abodes drew near, I spoke
Of my hidden secrets the streaming tears.
Of my secret sorrows and pouring tears,
وماذاand what انتفاعيmy benefit بالديارfrom the dwellings وقربهاand being near them
وماذا انتفاعي بالديار وقربها
إذاwhen أقفرتthey have become deserted منof كلall منthose whom اناI آلفam fond of
إذا أقفرت من كل من انا آلف
And what do I gain from the dwellings and being near them,
Yet of what use to me is the nearness of home
When they lie empty of everyone I hold dear?
If it is devoid of all those I hold dear?
