بقلبِ أريبٍ بأسُه يَتوقَّدُ
But I face calamities calmly,
Yet I meet misfortunes with a heart
with a discerning heart whose courage blazes,
Devious, its malice ever fanned to flame,
أبيٌّunyielding علىin the face of عدْلِjustice الزّمانِtime وجَورِهِand its injustice
أبيٌّ على عدْلِ الزّمانِ وجَورِهِ

غنيٍّ عن الأعوانِ إن قَلَّ مُسعِدُ
unyielding in the face of time’s justice and its injustice,
Rebel against the justice and the wrong
needing no helpers, even if those who lend aid are few.
Of Time, needing no aid though helpers fail me.
فماfor … not هُوit فيin خَطبٍa crisis وإنand even if راعَit frightens جازِعٌdistraught
فما هُو في خَطبٍ وإن راعَ جازِعٌ

For in a crisis, however terrifying, it is neither distraught
So fixed my purpose, though the timorous quail,
nor terror-stricken, nor stupefied by calamity.
I am nor startled nor bewildered.
