Is it because time has curbed my headstrong spirit or bent back

my reins, or the sandal has slipped beneath the arch of my foot,

that some people have joined in gloating out of ignorance?

And how many a grudge in the breast has ignorance brought to light!

And am I anything but a sword whose edge was blunted

by clashes with foes, then sharpened by polishing?
