ذو وحدة ساءه في داره الزمن
When [a home] whose inhabitant has perished is mourned
When the wind cries in her deserted abode
by a lonely man whom time has saddened in his home,
Of loneliness that saddened him in his home, time

أن ليس لي بعدهم دار ولا سكن
I have wept for my family and my homelands, and it has grieved me
I cried for my family and homelands and was saddened
that after them I have neither home nor shelter.
That after them I have no home or dwelling

Time has ravaged my people, and my homelands were taken
Time has grieved for my people and the kingdom of my
by someone other than me; so I have neither family nor homeland.
Homelands except for me, so I have neither family nor homeland

And death has not [left] me a confidant for sorrow
And death did not leave me a confidant to share my sorrow
to whom I might pour out my anguish if sorrow visits me.
That I may express, if sorrow comes back to me
