Be patient when calamity strikes, and await relief

which God brings after delay and despair.

Indeed, the patience of the grape cluster's daughter, when she was confined

in the darkness of pitch, brought her to the cup.

Hardship in these days of ours

is like the night, enveloping all people.

And each of them is content—more than content—

with just enough food and clothing.

And before what they hope for stands an obstacle,

    confronting people's faces with despair.
