God bless you—a youth through whom was revealed
May God protect you, O youth through whom
By our days the cheer of frowning Time.
Our days brought glad tidings of a gloomy time,

Hopes of good came true in him, leaving no
Hope for good came true in you, leaving
Breast closed over a despairing heart.
No breast embracing a despairing heart.

He attained the heights, till his excellence was acknowledged,
You reached the heights till your merit
And his eminence, by every stubborn opponent and rival.
Made submitters and rivals bow down before you.
جُودٌgenerosity كماءِlike the water of المُزنِrain clouds طَلْقٌunstinting خالصٌfree
مِنfrom مَنِّreproaches over favors منَّانٍa boastful giver ومنعِand withholding مُمَاكِسِa haggler
Generosity like raincloud water, unstinting, free
Generosity like pouring rain, pure
From a boastful giver’s reproaches and a haggler’s withholding.
Of any reproacher's blame or miser's greed.
ومَواهِبٌand gifts لوif قُسِّمَتwere divided بينamong الوَرىhumankind
ماnot كانَwould يوجَدُbe found فيهمُamong them منany بَائِسِdestitute person
And gifts—were they divided among humankind,
Gifts that if divided among people
Not one destitute soul would be found among them.
Would leave no wretch remaining in the lands.
ونَدَىand bounty يدٍa hand لوif أنّهاit were مبسوطةٌoutstretched
فيover الأرضِthe earth أثمرَwould bear fruit كلُّevery عودٍbranch يابِسِdry
And a hand’s dew-like bounty—were that hand outstretched
And a hand's dew that if outstretched
Over the earth, every dry branch would bear fruit.
On earth would make every barren twig bear fruit.
