ياO مُعرِضاًyou who turn away راضياًpleased وغَضبانَاand angry
وهاجِرِيand you who forsake me هاجعاًasleep ويقْظانَاand awake
O you who turn away, whether pleased or angry,
O you who turn away satisfied and wrathful
and forsake me, whether asleep or awake:
And emigrate but will return awake
صَددتَyou turned away إمّاeither لِهفوةٍfor a lapse فَرَطَتْoccurred inadvertently
مِنّيfrom me وإِمّاor else ظُلماًunjustly وعُدوانَاand with hostility
You turned away, either for a lapse committed
You have intended either a mistake I made
by me, or unjustly and with hostility.
Or injustice and aggression from me
طيفُكَyour phantom ماwhat بالُهُthe matter with it يُهاجرنيit forsakes me
مَنْwho أعلمَinformed الطيفَthe phantom بالّذيof what كَانَاhad happened
Your phantom—why does it forsake me?
Why does your specter emigrate me
Who told the phantom what had happened?
Who informed the specter of what we were
