أُنظُر إلى حسن صَبرِ الشّمعِ يُظهر للرْ

رَائين نوراً وفيه النّارُ تَستَعِرُ

رَائين نوراً وفيه النّارُ تَستَعِرُ

Look at the candle's beautiful patience: it gives the

I gaze upon the beauty of the candle's patience

onlookers light, while fire blazes within it.

Showing light to onlookers while fire rages within

كذا الكريمُ تراه ضاحِكاً جَذِلاً

كذا الكريمُ تراه ضاحِكاً جَذِلاً

وقلبُه بدخيل الهِمِّ مُنفَطِرُ

وقلبُه بدخيل الهِمِّ مُنفَطِرُ

Likewise the noble man: you see him laughing, joyful,

So too the noble one appears laughing and serene

while his heart is torn apart by sorrow's intrusion.

While his heart crumbles from burdens of distress within
