أَأَيَّwhom? الناسِamong people آمَنُI trust بَعدَafter بَلجٍBalj
وَقَرَّةَand Qarra صاحِبَيَّmy two companions بِذيat Dhu طَلالِTalal
Whom among men can I trust after Balj,
Who of all men believes, after Belj,
and Qarra, my two companions at Dhu Talal?
And the comforting of my friends in Thi Talal,
أَلَمّاwas it when أَغزَرَتyielded abundant milk فيinto العُسِّthe large bowl بُركٌBurk
وَدَرعَةُand Dar‘a بِنتُهاher daughter نَسِياthe two forgot فَعاليmy deeds
Was it when Burk yielded abundant milk into the large bowl,
That blessings abounded in oppression,
and Dar‘a, her daughter, that they both forgot my deeds?
And Dar'a, her daughter, forgot her duty,
سَمِنَّthey grew fat عَلىon الرَبيعِspring pasture فَهُنَّso they are ضُبطٌstout, broad-bodied
لَهُنَّthey have لَبالِبٌlarge udders تَحتَbeneath السِخالِthe lambs and kids
They grew fat on spring pasture and became stout;
They fattened in the spring, so now they're controlled,
they have large udders beneath their suckling young.
With udders for milking beneath the teats.
