وَذَلِكَand that مِنfrom دينِthe religion of اليَهودِthe Jews وَلوعُa falsehood
And they said, 'Crawl and bray; Khaybar will not harm you.'
They said: love and coo, Khaybar won't harm you,
And that is a falsehood from the religion of the Jews.
That's the religion of Jews, yet they are miserable.
لَعَمريby my life لَئِنif indeed عَشَّرتُI brayed ten times مِنfrom خَشيَةِfear of الرَدىdeath
نُهاقَthe braying of الحَميرِdonkeys إِنَّنيindeed I لَجَزوعُtruly fainthearted
By my life, if I bray ten times for fear of death,
By my life, if I live in fear of misfortune,
as donkeys bray, I would indeed be fainthearted.
I'll bray like donkeys. I'm really miserable.
فَلاso may not وَأَلَتescape تِلكَthose النُفوسُsouls وَلاnor أَتَتreach
عَلىupon رَوضَةِthe meadow of الأَجدادِthe forefathers وَهِيَwhile they are جَميعُintact
Then may those souls neither escape nor reach
Those souls didn't come to the gardens of ancestors,
the forefathers' meadow while still intact.
While they were all together.
فَكَيفَhow then وَقَدand already ذَكَّيتُI have matured وَاِشتَدَّand has grown strong جانِبيmy side

How, then, now that I have matured and my side has grown strong,
How come, when I have sobered up and my flanks grew stronger,
can Sulayma, when I have what hears and obeys—
Sulayma is with me, an obedient listener.

a tongue, a keen sword, and zeal for honor,
A sharp tongue, a sharp sword and a guard,
and a judgment that fells the judgments of men—
And an opinion matching the views of courageous men.

frighten me with death's hazards, when there have already passed away
The fear of death worries me, and there have passed
forebears of ours—Qays and Rabiʿ together?
Ancestral tribes - Qais and Rabi'a together.
