تَذَكَّرتَ هِنداً وَأَعصارَها
وَلَمand did not تَقضِfulfill نَفسُكَyour soul أَوطارَهاits desires
وَلَم تَقضِ نَفسُكَ أَوطارَها
You remembered Hind and her days,
You recalled India and its storms
And your soul had not fulfilled its desires.
Yet your soul did not fulfill its days there
تَذَكَّرَتِremembered النَفسُthe soul ماwhat قَدalready مَضىpassed

وَهاجَت عَلى العَينِ عُوّارَها
The soul remembered what had passed,
The soul recalled what had passed
And stirred up the eye's aching pain,
And its tears welled up in the eyes

And guard Ramah's secrets.

حَسَدنا عَلى الزَورِ زُوّارَها
When we did not visit her for fear of foes,
When we did not visit it, fearing harm
We envied her visitors for their visits.
We envied its false visitors
