لاno فَخرَglory إِلّاexcept قَدalready عَلاهُsurpassed it مُحَمَّدٌMuhammad
لا فَخرَ إِلّا قَد عَلاهُ مُحَمَّدٌ
فَإِذاso when فَخَرتَyou boasted بِهِof him فَإِنّيthen indeed I أَشهَدُI bear witness
فَإِذا فَخَرتَ بِهِ فَإِنّي أَشهَدُ
There is no glory that Muhammad has not surpassed.
None can boast above Muhammad,
So when you boast of him, I bear witness.
So if you boast of him, I bear witness,
إِنif قَدindeed فَخَرتَyou boasted وَقَفتَyou halted كُلِّevery مُفاخِرٍrival in boasting
إِن قَد فَخَرتَ وَقَفتَ كُلِّ مُفاخِرٍ
وَإِلَيكَand toward you فيin الشَرَفِhonor الرَفيعِlofty المَقصَدُthe destination
وَإِلَيكَ في الشَرَفِ الرَفيعِ المَقصَدُ
If you have boasted, you have halted every rival in boasting;
You have truly boasted and surpassed all other boasters,
And in lofty honor, you are the destination.
To you belongs the highest, most noble rank.

We have pillars: our forebears reached the utmost
We have pillars that begin
In noble deeds, whose course our lineage has followed.
With the honored birth,

Whoever tastes them—save the Prophet and his family—
None has tasted them but the Prophet and his family.
Is engulfed on earth by the foaming gulf.
In the land he was immersed in the turbulent sea.

Leave this, and go at evening to a soft-skinned maiden’s courtyard,
Leave this and go to a cheerful gathering
With some of what I have uttered and Maʿbad has sung,
Of what I have spoken and Maʿbad sang,

With young men whose palms overflow
With generosity when harsh Time snarls.
With generosity when times are difficult,

They partake of choice wine from ʿĀna,
They pass around a cup of wine
Pleasing to its drinker, and pleasant is the place to sit.
That is sweet to its drinker and the place is joyful.
