راعَdismayed الفُؤادَthe heart تَفَرُّقُthe parting الأَحبابِof loved ones
راعَ الفُؤادَ تَفَرُّقُ الأَحبابِ
يَومَthe day الرَحيلِof departure فَهاجَand stirred ليwithin me أَطرابيmy troubled feelings
يَومَ الرَحيلِ فَهاجَ لي أَطرابي
The parting of loved ones dismayed my heart
The heart was disturbed by the separation of friends
On the day of departure, stirring my troubled feelings.
On the day of departure, my anxieties intensified
فَظَلَلتُso I remained مُكتَإِباًdespondent أُكَفكِفُwiping away عَبرَةًa tear
فَظَلَلتُ مُكتَإِباً أُكَفكِفُ عَبرَةً
سَحّاًpouring forth تَفيضُit overflows كَواشِلِlike trickling water الأَسرابِof underground channels
سَحّاً تَفيضُ كَواشِلِ الأَسرابِ
So I remained despondent, wiping away a tear,
So I remained depressed, choking back tears
Pouring forth, overflowing like water trickling from underground channels.
That flowed freely like the beams of lightning
لَمّاwhen تَنادَواthey called to one another لِلرَحيلِto depart وَقَرَّبواand brought near
لَمّا تَنادَوا لِلرَحيلِ وَقَرَّبوا
بُزلَfull-grown الجِمالِcamels لِطِيَّةٍfor a journey وَذَهابِand departure
بُزلَ الجِمالِ لِطِيَّةٍ وَذَهابِ
When they called to one another to depart and brought near
When they called for departure and prepared
Full-grown camels for a journey and departure,
The bundles and supplies for the journey
كادَnearly الأَسىgrief يَقضيputs an end عَلَيكَto you صَبابَةًwith ardent longing
كادَ الأَسى يَقضي عَلَيكَ صَبابَةً
وَالوَجهُand the face مِنكَof yours لِبَينِat parting from إِلفِكِyour beloved كابِdowncast
وَالوَجهُ مِنكَ لِبَينِ إِلفِكِ كابِ
Grief nearly killed you with longing,
Grief almost did away with your youth
And your face was downcast at parting from your beloved.
While your face in separation from your loved ones grew sullen
