    Tell me, you who are no liar:

    Do you love me? May I be your ransom.

    ما يُطيقُ الكَلامَ فيمَن سِواكِ

    And tell me truly, for my heart is captive;

    it cannot bear talk of anyone but you.

    Whenever a star appears or sinks from sight,

    remembrance of you cleaves my heart, and it weeps for you.

    فَلَقَد نِلتِ يا ثُرَيّا مُناكِ

    In your reproaches, you wished to part from me;

    so indeed, Thurayya, you have had your wish.

    Do not obey the slanderers in what they intended,

    O Thurayya, nor the one who forbids you.

    Many a young man, noble in character and chaste,

    longs to see you at a gathering.

    What God decreed stood in the way of that,

    in truth, so he cannot meet you.
