تَقولُshe says ياO عَمَّتاmy aunt كُفّيhold back جَوانِبَهُits sides
وَيليwoe to me بُليتُI am afflicted وَأَبلىand has worn down جيدِيَmy neck الشَعَرُthe hair
She says, “My aunt, hold back its sides!
You say, "My aunt, let his sides alone,
Woe is me! I am afflicted, and the hair has worn down my neck.”
Alas for me! I have wasted and my hair has turned gray,
مِثلُlike الأَساوِدِblack snakes قَدindeed أَعياhas exhausted مَواشِطَهُthe women who comb it
تَضِلُّlose their way فيهِin it مَداريهاher combs وَتَنكَسِرُand break
Like black snakes, it has indeed exhausted the women who comb it;
Like lions exhausted by their play;
Her combs lose their way in it and break.
Their coils in it are bewildered and broken.
فَإِنand if نَشَرتَyou spread out عَلىwith عَمدٍdeliberate intent ذَوائِبَهاher tresses
أَبصَرتَyou would see مِنهُfrom it فَتيتَfine particles of المِسكِmusk يَنتَشِرُscattering
And if you deliberately spread out her tresses,
But if you spread it deliberately,
You would see fine particles of musk scattering from it.
You will see fragrance of musk scattered through it."
