O you who ride toward Medina on a sturdy she-camel,

strongly built, toying with ring and rein,

convey to the people of al-Baqi, from a man

grieving for the people of al-Baqi, a greeting of peace.

How many a noble, illustrious man they have buried there—

gallant—and a lad just entering youth,

and a treasured woman, in whom her family placed their hopes,

who combined beauty of form with perfection.
