O you who reproach me for love—do you not
O you who persists in love, do you not
fear God's punishment on our account? Do you not
Fear the punishment of God in us, do you not
تَعلَمُyou know أَنَّthat الحُبَّlove داءٌan illness أَماindeed
وَاللَهِby God لَوif حُمِّلتَyou were burdened مِنهُwith it كَماjust as
know that love is an illness? Indeed,
Know that love is an illness, do you not
by God, had you been burdened with it as
By God, if you were burdened as I
حُمِّلتُI was burdened مِنwith حُبٍّlove رَخيمٍtender لَماwould not
لُمتُI reproached عَلىfor الحُبِّlove فَدَعنيso leave me وَماand what
I was burdened with tender love, I would not
Was burdened with feeble love, you would not
have reproached anyone for love; so leave me and what
Blame me for love, so leave me be and do not
أَطلُبُI seek إِنّيindeed I لَستُI am not أَدريaware بِماby what

I seek. Indeed, I do not know by what
Seek what I do not know, except that while
I was slain, except that, while
I was at the door of the palace, taking some
أَناI بِبابِat the gate of القَصرِthe palace بيwithin me بَعضِsome of ماwhat

I was at the palace gate, harboring some of what
Of what I seek from their palace, he shot
I seek from their palace, someone shot—
An arrow like a gazelle, and his
شِبهُone resembling غَزالٍa gazelle بِسِهامٍwith arrows فَماso not

one like a gazelle—with arrows; so neither
Arrows did not miss, but his
of his two arrows missed; rather,
Eyes were two arrows, whenever
عَيناهُhis two eyes سَهمانِtwo arrows لَهُbelonging to him كُلَّماwhenever

his eyes are his two arrows; whenever
He wanted to kill me with them, they gave peace
he wished to slay me with them both, he greeted me.
