بَعدَafter ماthat هِجتَyou stirred بِالحَديثِwith talk اِشتِياقيmy longing
بَعدَ ما هِجتَ بِالحَديثِ اِشتِياقي
O early riser, intent on parting from me,
O early riser, longing for my departure
After you stirred my longing with your talk.
After you were stirred by talking of my yearning,
لَيتَwould that شِعريmy knowledge غَداةَon the morning بانواthey departed وَفيهِمand among them

صورَةُ الشَمسِ أَينَ يُرجى التَلاقي
Would that I knew, the morning they departed—and among them was
Would that I knew, tomorrow when they set out
The sun's likeness—where reunion might be hoped for.
Where can the likeness of the sun be hoped for reunion?
جَزَعٌanguish يَعتَريكَassails you ياO قَلبُheart مِنهاbecause of her
جَزَعٌ يَعتَريكَ يا قَلبُ مِنها
إِنif يَحُثّواthey urge onward جِمالَهُمtheir camels لِاِنطِلاقِfor departure
إِن يَحُثّوا جِمالَهُم لِاِنطِلاقِ
Anguish assails you, O heart, because of her,
Anguish seizes you, O heart, because of her.
If they urge their camels onward to depart.
If they urge on their camel litters to set out.

We have healed our souls—if there is a cure
We lavished our souls, if lavishing
For love of her in her embrace and mine—
Can heal them of passion for her embrace and clasping.

When she held back her tears, then said:
When she stanched her tears, then she said:
“Parting is near, and so is the companions' departure.
"The parting has come close, the friends prepare to leave."

My heart is indeed pledged to you today,
My heart is pledged to you today
To my misery, and for love of the people of Iraq.”
To my misery and love for Iraq's people.
