O abode of ʿAbda at al-Ashṭār and al-Kuthub,
O Abda's home amid the sand dunes and hills
Return my greeting, for you have stirred my yearning.
Send back my greetings, for you have stirred my yearning

An abode of ʿAbda's, when her age-mates were bashful maidens,
A home for Abda, though its dwellers are now few
Dark-eyed, with clear whites, never accused of lying.
Tears of sorrow flow, no lies can dry their welling
أَدعوكِI call to you ماas long as ضَحِكَتsmiled سِنّيmy tooth وَإِنand if خَدِرَتbecame numb

I call to you as long as my teeth show in laughter; and if numbness grips
I call you, while my years still laugh though my feet fail
My foot, I call with the cry of an impassioned lover.
I pray the lover's prayer in all its fervent feeling
