Memories have stirred the sorrows of your heart,

and it yearned—longing makes a young man weep.

The full-figured beauties stirred me, so I never

cease to confine myself to the company of the fair.

Is there a noble, wellborn man stirred to longing,

whom sleeplessness over his highborn beloved has worn thin?

Or does he sing of his sorrow and then weep,

as ʿUmar sang of his sorrow?

Silken fabrics veil them, should there be opened

one day, secluded chambers with rooms before them.

    Slender-waisted, delicate, full-figured, untamed,

they possess graceful coquetry and modesty.

How lovely are affection and sincerity, and how

ugly are her estrangement and excuses!
