Long has Zaynab's household turned away,
The estrangement of Zainab's family has endured
out of wilful harshness, though we harbour no hatred.
Though we bear them no malice or ill will

And two hearts were attached until age
until white hair crowned our heads.

Her cord is strong with us, but my cord
Our bond with them is strong while their
with her is weak in its strands, worn to shreds.
Ties to us are weakened debris

One day at the Fare' branch she glanced at us
a glance whose return was a flash,
A glance whose return was a wink

for which the meadows willingly yielded their herbage:
To obey, so the meadows' plants bent low
