خَرَجتُI went out غَداةَon the morning of النَفرِdeparture أَعتَرِضُI look over الدُمىthe statue-like beauties
خَرَجتُ غَداةَ النَفرِ أَعتَرِضُ الدُمى
فَلَمand did not أَرَI see أَحلىlovelier مِنكِthan you فيin العَينِthe eye وَالقَلبِand the heart
فَلَم أَرَ أَحلى مِنكِ في العَينِ وَالقَلبِ
I went out on the morning of departure, looking over the statue-like beauties.
I went out one morning to cross the sand dunes
And I saw none lovelier than you to the eye and heart.
But I saw no one sweeter than you in my eyes or heart
فَوَاللَهِand by God ماnot أَدريI know أَحُسناًwhether beauty رُزِقتَهُyou were endowed with it
فَوَاللَهِ ما أَدري أَحُسناً رُزِقتَهُ
أَمِor الحُبُّlove أَعمىblind كَالَّذيlike what قيلَwas said فيabout الحُبِّlove
أَمِ الحُبُّ أَعمى كَالَّذي قيلَ في الحُبِّ
And by God, I do not know whether you were endowed with beauty,
By God, I don't know if you were granted beauty
or love is blind, as has been said of love.
Or if love blinded me, as they say love blinds
