تِلكَthat هِندٌHind تَصُدُّturns away لِلهَجرِfor estrangement صَدّاa turning away
أَدَلالٌis it coyness أَمor هَجرُthe estrangement of هِندٍHind أَجَدّاhas grown serious
That is Hind, turning away in utter estrangement.
Is it coyness, or has Hind's estrangement grown serious?
أَوor لِتَنكاso she may reopen بِهِwith it كُلومَthe wounds of فُؤاديmy heart
أَمor أَرادَتshe intended قَتليto kill me ضِراراًmaliciously وَعَمداand deliberately
Or is it to reopen my heart's wounds through this?
Or did she intend to kill me, maliciously and deliberately?
أَيُّهاO الناصِحُsincere adviser الأَمينُtrustworthy رَسوليmy messenger
قُلsay لِهِندٍto Hind مِنّيfrom me إِذاwhen جِئتَyou come to هِنداHind
O sincere, trustworthy adviser, my messenger,
Say to Hind from me, when you come to Hind:
يَعلَمُknows اللَهُGod أَنthat قَدindeed أوتيتِyou have been given مِنّيfrom me
غَيرَwithout مَنٍّreminding of favors لِذاكَfor that نُصحاًsincere devotion وَوِدّاand love
God knows that you have indeed received from me
Sincere devotion and love, without my claiming credit for it.
قَدindeed بَراهُhas worn him down وَشَفَّهُand wasted him الحُبُّlove حَتّىuntil
صارَhe became مِمّاfrom what بِهِafflicts him عِظاماًbones وَجِلداand skin
Love has worn him down and wasted him, until
He has become, through his suffering, mere bones and skin.
ماnever تَقَرَّبتُI drew near بِالصَفاءِwith sincerity لِأَدنوso I might draw closer
مِنكِto you إِلّاexcept that نَأَيتِyou drew away وَاِزدَدتِand you increased بُعداin distance
Whenever I have approached in sincerity to draw nearer
To you, you have drawn away and grown more distant.
قَدsometimes يُثَنّيholds back عَنكِfrom you الحَفيظَةُwounded pride حَتّىuntil
لَمnot أَجِدI found مِنfrom سُؤالِكِasking you اليَومَtoday بُدّاany escape
Wounded pride has sometimes kept me from you, until
Today I found no choice but to appeal to you.
فَاِرحَميso have mercy مُغرَماًa lovesick man بِحُبِّكِwith love for you لاقىhas endured
مِنfrom جَوىthe burning anguish of الحُبِّlove وَالحَفيظَةِand wounded pride جَهداhardship
So pity a man consumed by love for you, who has endured
Hardship from love's burning anguish and wounded pride.
