    Halt at a dwelling whose age has made you forget it.

    The wind swept over it, and its landmark was erased.

    لَوِ اِستَطاعَ الكَلامَ لَم أَرِمُه

    I stood at the dwelling to question it;

    had it been able to speak, I would not have left it.

    A dwelling of one with soft, dye-stained fingers—

    blessed is whoever spends the night kissing him.

    I kept hunting him and beguiling him

    one day, drawing near to him and keeping him secret,

    until I left the beloved in love with us.

    He comes to visit us, his feet carrying him along.

    قَد شَفَّهُ حُبُّنا فَلَم يَرِمُه

    He circles the house, never leaving it;

    love for us has wasted him, so he has not left it.

    I never tended pregnant she-camels, as they know,

    nor made a camel kneel, taking it by the halter.
