Among the Bakra women is an Iraqi woman,
called Subayʿa, whom I have extolled.
مِنfrom آلِthe family of أَبيAbu بَكرَةَBakra الأَكرَمينَthe most noble
خَصَصتُI singled out بِوِدّيwith my affection فَأَصفَيتُهاand gave her my pure devotion
From the most noble family of Abu Bakra,
I singled her out for my affection and gave her my pure devotion.
وَمِنand for حُبِّهاlove of her زُرتُI visited أَهلَthe people of العِراقِIraq
وَأَسخَطتُand I angered أَهليmy family وَأَرضَيتُهاand I pleased her
And for love of her I visited the people of Iraq,
and angered my family and pleased her.
أَموتُI die إِذاwhen شَحَطَتgrew distant دارُهاher home
وَأَحياand I live إِذاwhen أَناI لاقَيتُهاI met her
I die when her home is far away,
and I live when I meet her.
فَأُقسِمُso I swear لَوif أَنَّthat ماwhat بيin me بِهاin her

So I swear, if she suffered what I suffer,
and I were the physician, I would treat her.
