The daughter of the two Bakrs says, the day they met us:

This man has indeed grown gray in our absence and become unrecognizable.

For such things as I have witnessed have grayed my locks,

and such grief as I hide has made me unrecognizable.

For many a chief among them have I lost,

and many a gray-haired man, like the full moon, majestic and radiant.

Those are my people; by your grandfather, I do not see

a company to match them among those upon the earth—

more staunch in defending the seeker of hospitality when he calls,

and harder-hitting against armor on the day of battle,

and sounder in judgment and greater in bounty,

and readier with kindness and further from wrongdoing.

And if they bestow a favor, they follow it with another kindness,

and never follow kindness with embittering reminders of their favors.
