Al-Rabāb sent word reproaching me, and said:
What you said in recitation has indeed reached us.
قُلتُI said لاdo not تَغضَبيbe angry فِدىًa ransom لَكِfor you قَوليmy words
بِلِسانيwith my tongue وَماand what يُجِنُّconceals فُؤاديmy heart
I said: Do not be angry; may my words be your ransom—
those upon my tongue, and what my heart conceals.
ثُمَّthen لاdo not تَغضَبيbe angry فِدىًa ransom لَكِfor you نَفسيmy life
ثُمَّthen أَهليmy family وَطارِفيand my newly acquired wealth وَتِلاديand my inherited wealth
Then do not be angry; may my life be your ransom,
then my family, my newly acquired wealth, and my inherited wealth.

If you return, Tihāmah shall be my home,
and if you settle in Najd, there shall I return.
