I once said at al-Khayf
to tender maidens:
قُلنَsay (you women) بِاللَهِby God لِلَّتيto her who
سَمِعَتshe heard قَولَthe words of ظالِمِa wrongdoer
“Say, by God, to her who
heard a wrongdoer's words:
إِقبَليaccept العُذرَthe excuse مِنfrom فَتىًa youth
‘Accept the excuse of a youth,
truthful and free of sin.
لَمdid not يَخُنكِbetray you الوِدادَlove لاno
لاno وَرَبِّand by the Lord of المَواسِمِthe pilgrimage seasons
He has not betrayed you in love—no,
no, by the Lord of the pilgrimage seasons.
لِمwhy تَبوإِينَdo you burden yourself بِاِثمِهِwith his guilt
Why take his guilt upon yourself,
when he is repentant and bears no grudge?
إِتَّقيfear اللَهَGod فيconcerning فَتىًa youth
Hashim
Fear God in your treatment of a youth
of noble character, O sister of Hashim.’”
