صادَفَتنا عَشِيَّةً بِالجِمارِ
Anas led me to doom, until
A friend led me to the moment when
she encountered us one evening at al-Jimār.
We met one evening at the glowing embers
قالَhe said ليto me اِنظُرlook وَلَيتَنيand would that I لَمdid not أُطِعهُobey him

وَبَلى لَستُ سابِقاً مِقداري
He said to me, “Look!”—and I wish I had not obeyed him.
He said to me "Look!" - Oh, would that I'd not obeyed! -
And indeed, I cannot outrun my allotted fate.
Alas, my fate is not for me to race before.
فَبَداand so appeared ليto me تَحتَbeneath السُجوفِthe curtains شُعاعٌa radiance
فَبَدا لي تَحتَ السُجوفِ شُعاعٌ

كادَ يُعشي شُعاعَ شَمسِ النَهارِ
Then a radiance appeared to me beneath the curtains
Beneath the canopy there shone a gleam
that nearly dazzled the rays of the daytime sun.
That almost matched the daytime's brilliant beam.
