قالَت وَعَيناها تَجودانِها

قالَت وَعَيناها تَجودانِها

صوحِبتَ وَاللَهِ لَكَ الراعي

صوحِبتَ وَاللَهِ لَكَ الراعي

She said, her eyes shedding tears for her:

She said, while her eyes were shedding tears generously:

May you have good company, and may God be your guardian.

“My friend, by God, you are so discreet!

يا اِبنَ سُرَيجٍ لا تُذِع سِرِّنا

يا اِبنَ سُرَيجٍ لا تُذِع سِرِّنا

قَد كُنتَ عِندي غَيرَ مِذياعِ

قَد كُنتَ عِندي غَيرَ مِذياعِ

O Ibn Surayj, do not divulge our secret;

O son of Surayj, do not spread our secret -

You have been, in my eyes, no teller of secrets.

You have always been to me perfectly trustworthy.”
