كَالمَها يَلعَبنَ في حُجرَتِها
And indeed she said to her companions of the same age,
She said to her companions, their words
Who played like oryx in her chamber:
Playing in her chamber,
خُذنَtake away عَنّيfrom me الظِلَّthe shadow لاnot يَتبَعُنيit follows me
خُذنَ عَنّي الظِلَّ لا يَتبَعُني

وَمَضَت تَسعى إِلى قُبَّتِها
"Take the shadow away from me, so it will not follow me."
"Take the shade from me, let it not follow me"
And she went hurrying toward her pavilion.
And she walked quickly to her dome.

ظَبيَةٌ تَختالُ في مَشيَتِها
No hardship had befallen her in days gone by—
No troubles had afflicted her in times past,
A gazelle, proud in her gait.
A gazelle frolicking in her gait,
لَمdid not تُعانِقembrace رَجُلاًa man فيماin what مَضىhas passed
لَم تُعانِق رَجُلاً فيما مَضى

She had never embraced a man before—
She'd never embraced a man in times past,
A tender, lithe maiden in her finery.
A chirping girl in her gown.

Never has an arrow of hers missed its mark, and whoever
No arrow had ever struck her, and he who
She shoots at cannot escape her shot.
She would strike, would not escape her shooting.
