لَعَمريby my life لَقَدindeed نِلتُI attained الَّذيwhat كُنتُI was أَرتَجيI hope for
لَعَمري لَقَد نِلتُ الَّذي كُنتُ أَرتَجي
وَأَصبَحتُand I became لاnot أَخشىI fear الَّذيwhat كُنتُI was أَحذَرُI dread
وَأَصبَحتُ لا أَخشى الَّذي كُنتُ أَحذَرُ
By my life, I have indeed attained what I hoped for.
By my life! I have attained what I hoped for
And now I do not fear what I used to dread.
And I have become one who no more fears what he did guard against
فَلَيسَfor … is not كَمِثليlike me اليَومَtoday كِسرىKisra وَهُرمُزٌand Hormuz
فَلَيسَ كَمِثلي اليَومَ كِسرى وَهُرمُزٌ
وَلاnor المَلِكُthe king النُعمانُal-Nu'man مِثليlike me وَقَيصَرُand Caesar
وَلا المَلِكُ النُعمانُ مِثلي وَقَيصَرُ
For neither Kisra nor Hormuz is my equal today.
So none today is like myself, neither Chosroes nor Hormuz,
Nor is King al-Nu'man my equal, nor Caesar.
Nor the King of Nu'man, nor even Caesar!
