We brought sincere counsel, borne by the mounts,

Onto the saddles of male camels and she-camels,

With their elbows working hard, heavily laden,

To Sanaa, from a deep mountain pass.

We make for Ibn Dhī Yazan on them, and it cuts through

The undersides of their foot-pads—the main road.

And they glimpse flashes of lightning from his portents,

Their flicker continuing into further lightning.

So when they reached Sanaa, they found themselves

In the abode of kingship and deep-rooted ancestral honor.
