كَاِبنِlike the son of بيضٍBayḍ غَداةَon the morning when سُدَّwas blocked السَبيلُthe road
Indeed, ʿAmr, with what ʿAmr has shouldered,
is like Ibn Bayḍ on the morning the road was blocked.

Ghālib found no recourse beyond you
for blood debts, nor was any blood left unredressed.
كُلُevery أَمرٍmatter يَنوبُbefalls عَبَساًʿAbs جَميعاًall together
أَنتَyou فيهِin it المُطاعُthe one obeyed فيماin what تَقولُyou say
Every matter that befalls all of ʿAbs—
in it, you are obeyed in whatever you say.
قَدalready تَحَمَلتَyou shouldered خَيرَthe best of ذاكَthat وَليداًas a child
أَنتَyou لِلصالِحاتِfor good deeds قُدُماًboldly فَعولُa constant doer
You shouldered the best of that while still a child;
you boldly and constantly perform good deeds.
