مَجِّدواglorify اللَهَGod فَهوَfor He لِلمَجدِof glory أَهلُworthy
مَجِّدوا اللَهَ فَهوَ لِلمَجدِ أَهلُ
رَبُّناour Lord فيin السَماءِheaven أَمسىhas become كَبيراgreat
رَبُّنا في السَماءِ أَمسى كَبيرا
Glorify God, for He is worthy of glory.
Our Lord in heaven is great.
ذَلِكَthat One المُنشِىءُthe Creator الحِجارَةَthe stones
ذَلِكَ المُنشِىءُ الحِجارَةَ
وَالموتىand the dead وَأَحيِاهُمُand He revived them وَكانَand He was قَديراall-powerful
وَالموتى وَأَحيِاهُمُ وَكانَ قَديرا
That is He who brought the stones into being,
And the dead; He revived them and was all-powerful.
الأَعلىthe Most High الَذيwho سَبَقَpreceded الناسَhumankind
الأَعلى الَذي سَبَقَ الناسَ
وَسَوَّىand fashioned فَوقَabove السَماءِheaven سَريراa throne
وَسَوَّى فَوقَ السَماءِ سَريرا
The Most High, who preceded humankind,
And fashioned a throne above heaven,
رَجعاًa return (unclear here) لاnot يَنالُهُreaches it بَصَرُthe sight
رَجعاً لا يَنالُهُ بَصَرُ
الناسِof humankind تَرىyou see دونَهُbefore it المَلائِكُthe angels سوراa wall
الناسِ تَرى دونَهُ المَلائِكُ سورا
A ‘return’ beyond the reach of the sight
Of humankind; before it you see the angels as a wall.
هوَHe أَبدىmade manifest كُلَّall ماthat which يَأثُرُrecounts
هوَ أَبدى كُلَّ ما يَأثُرُ
الناسَpeople أَماثيلَexamples باقياتٍenduring سُفوراunveiled
الناسَ أَماثيلَ باقياتٍ سُفورا
He made manifest all that is recounted
By people—enduring examples, unveiled.
خَلَقَHe created النَخلَthe palms مُصعِداتٍrising high تَراهاyou see them
خَلَقَ النَخلَ مُصعِداتٍ تَراها
تَقصُفُbreaking اليابِساتِthe dry ones وَالمَخضوراand the green
تَقصُفُ اليابِساتِ وَالمَخضورا
He created the palms; you see them rising high,
Breaking the dry and the green.
وَالتَماسيحَand crocodiles وَالسَنادِلَand sanādil (uncertain animal name) وَالأَيِّلَand stags
وَالتَماسيحَ وَالسَنادِلَ وَالأَيِّلَ
شَتىof various kinds وَالرِئمَand the white antelope وَالعُصفوراand the sparrow
شَتى وَالرِئمَ وَالعُصفورا
And crocodiles, sanādil, and stags
Of various kinds, and the white antelope and the sparrow;
وَصواراًand a herd مِنَof النَواشِطَthe roaming beasts عيراًwild asses
وَصواراً مِنَ النَواشِطَ عيراً
وَنَعاماًand ostriches خَواضِباًred-legged وَحَميراًand donkeys
وَنَعاماً خَواضِباً وَحَميراً
And a herd of roaming beasts—wild asses,
And red-legged ostriches, and donkeys;
وَأُسوداًand lions عَوادياًravening وَفيولاًand elephants
وَأُسوداً عَوادياً وَفيولاً
وَسِباعاًand beasts of prey وَالنَملَand ants وَالخِنزيراand swine
وَسِباعاً وَالنَملَ وَالخِنزيرا
And ravening lions, and elephants,
And beasts of prey, and ants, and swine;
وَدُيوكاًand cocks تَدعوcalling الغُرابَthe raven لِصُلحٍto peace
وَدُيوكاً تَدعو الغُرابَ لِصُلحٍ
وَإِوزّينَand geese أُحرِجَتwere hemmed in وَصُقوراand falcons
وَإِوزّينَ أُحرِجَت وَصُقورا
And cocks calling the raven to peace,
And geese hemmed in, and falcons.
أَرسَلَHe sent الذَرَّthe tiny ants وَالجَرادُand locusts عَلَيهِمupon them
أَرسَلَ الذَرَّ وَالجَرادُ عَلَيهِم
وَسِنيناًand years of famine فَأَهلَكَتهُمso they destroyed them وَموراand turmoil
وَسِنيناً فَأَهلَكَتهُم وَمورا
He sent tiny ants and locusts upon them,
And years of famine that destroyed them, and turmoil.
ذَكَرُthe male الذَرِّof the tiny ants إِنَّهُindeed it يَفعَلُdoes الشَرَّharm
ذَكَرُ الذَرِّ إِنَّهُ يَفعَلُ الشَرَّ
وَإِنَand indeed الجَرادَthe locusts كانَwere ثُبوراdestruction
وَإِنَ الجَرادَ كانَ ثُبورا
The male ant—indeed, it does harm;
And the locusts were indeed destruction.
كَبَتَoverwhelmed بَيضَةُthe egg البَياتِof the night assault عَلَيهِمupon them
كَبَتَ بَيضَةُ البَياتِ عَلَيهِم
لَمdid not يُحِسّواthey perceive مِنهاfrom it سَراهاits nighttime passage نَذيراًa warning
لَم يُحِسّوا مِنها سَراها نَذيراً
The egg of the night assault overwhelmed them;
They sensed no warning of its coming by night.
