فَماFor no بَلَغَتreached كَفُّhand اِمرىءٍof a man مُتَناوَلاًanything attainable
فَما بَلَغَت كَفُّ اِمرىءٍ مُتَناوَلاً
مِنَof المَجدِglory إِلاexcept حَيثُماwherever نِلتَyou attained أَطوَلُfarther-reaching
مِنَ المَجدِ إِلا حَيثُما نِلتَ أَطوَلُ
For no man's hand has reached anything
No hand can reach glory, except by grasping for more.
Of glory without your own reach extending farther.
No praise can capture virtue, not even honest words,
وَماAnd no بَلَغَattained المُثنونَthe praisers فيin الخَيرِgoodness مِدحَةًa tribute of praise
وَما بَلَغَ المُثنونَ في الخَيرِ مِدحَةً
وَلوand even if صَدَقواthey spoke truthfully إِلاexcept الَذيthat which فيكَin you أَفضَلُbetter
وَلو صَدَقوا إِلا الَذي فيكَ أَفضَلُ
Nor have the praisers offered any praise of goodness,
Except for that praise which lives in you, the greatest of all.
Even if they spoke truly, without the goodness in you surpassing it.
